2. Literature Review and Findings from the previous research

2.1 Preferences of Australian customers towards  the use of sustainable pool covers

Sustainability is one of the basic requirements of the customers which has a major impact on the buying activities of the stakeholders. The concept of sustainability aids in conserving the natural resources extensively which is later used to ensure efficient execution of the business operations. In the current scenario, conservation through the application of sustainable pool covers is extremely important as it might aid in lowering the occurrence of water pollution extensively.

The growth of toxic blue-green algae and presence of chemicals like Estrogen, Phenol and Caffeine are extensively found in swimming pools which often has a negative impact on the endocrine system of the humans (Zhou et al., 2020).  Moreover, as per the reports of Statista (2023), there are around 15% of households in Australia having the availability of a swimming pool. Hence, the need for sustainable pool covers have been extensively enhanced among the customers of Australia.

2.2 Application  of material durability, price and efficiency for overcoming technological and environmental obstacles affecting the development of sustainable pool covers

Sustainable pool covers ensure reduction in the occurrence of evaporation which further helps in maintaining a comfortable environment within the swimming pool.

As per the viewpoint of Lempart, Zakharova and Edyta Kudlek (2023), the use of sustainable materials like UV-stabilised polyethylene, polypropylene, or vinyl ensure to enhance sustainability and prevent the harmful UV rays from having an impact on the internal environment within the swimming pool (Marinopoulos and Katsifarakis, 2017). Therefore, the materials used in the development of the sustainable pool covers ensure that the internal environment of the structure is protected extensively.

On the contrary Núria Arimany Serrat and Juan-Jose Gomez-Guillen  (2023), stated that the cost involved in the purchase of materials like UV-stabilized polyethylene, polypropylene, or vinyl.is high and therefore, cannot be used by the common public.

Núria Arimany Serrat and Juan-Jose Gomez-Guillen  (2023)  further stated thar with the help of the UV-stabilized materials, the rate of evaporation in swimming pools might be reduced prominently. Therefore, even though the materials used in the development of sustainable pool covers are durable, the cost associated with the raw materials is high, which might not be feasible for the normal public.

Fibre glass is another popular material which has been extensively used for developing covers associated with swimming pools. Hence, it has been stated that there are wide variety of materials with contradicting durability and price which have been extensively used for the manufacture of pool covers.

2.3 Exploring the obstacles faced in the development of sustainable pool covers in Australia

Sustainable pool covers are extremely important for ensuring the reduction of pollution in the internal as well as external environment of the swimming pools. However, the development of the pool covers are often met with a series of challenges that hinder the implementation of the technique in Australia.

As per the viewpoint of Gounder et al. (2021), lack of awareness regarding the sustainable pool covers among the customers is considered to be one of the major issues associated with the popularity of the technique. Fibre Pool covers offer complete protection to  pools against external pollution. These pools are available in a variety of styles and prices. These pools not only keep the water clean, but also remove leaves, dirt and other debris and  protect the pool from animals and insects.

Moreover, the cost associated with the sustainable pool covers have also been an important factor behind its curtailed development (Araneo, 2023). The cost of materials like UV-stabilized polyethylene, polypropylene, or vinyl are high and therefore, is not feasible for the common public. Accessibility is challenging due to the restricted availability and distribution channels for these technological products.

Regulatory measures and certificates also present limitations, as consumers seek proof of adherence to environmental constraints (Cook et al., 2022).  Lack of awareness related to the use of swimming pool covers in Australia is one of the major challenges associated with the process.

The curtailed popularity related to the pool covers can be figured out by the fact that only 14% of the people in the country have swimming pools (Government of Australia, 2023). Hence, owing to the lack of availability of swimming pools in Australian homes have led to the lower demand of the covers.

Climate change has been another issue which has led to the lowering of the quality of the pool covers which has led to the decline in the quality of the cover (Government of Australia, 2023) Hence, the challenges mentioned above might be a cause of concern for the swimming pool covers in the market

Therefore, it is stated that owing to the presence of the challenges mentioned above, the development of the sustainable pool covers have faced curtailment in Australia.

Research methodology is referring to the process that is generally used to gathering data for interpretation and build an effective conclusion in an effective manner. The Saunders research onion model is generally used to implicate the research path that build string transmissibility in overall research process (Saunders, 2009). The strategy for exploring practical pool surfaces in Australia utilizes an inductive approach.

It includes gathering statistical information through site visits, interviews with pool makers, and ecological specialists. Following the collection of specific instances and observations of sustainable surfaces, patterns and commonalities are identified.  A research philosophy is a belief about how information about a phenomenon should be collected, analysed and used (Žukauskas, Vveinhardt and Andriukaitienė, 2018).

In this research process, use of positivism research philosophy beneficial to manage the intermediation of key independent factor included in research process. Interpretivism's attention on abstract getting it and implications makes it less appropriate for essential exploration because of possible predispositions, troubles in speculation, and the accentuation on subjective information of the study.

However, primary quantitative analysis is generally useful for this research process to understand about the key intermediary and coordinated examinations that were hard planned to get substitute perspectives from Australian pool owners and accomplices. Further, through primary quantitative examination, arising topics with respect to eco-accommodating materials, sturdiness, and natural effect are explained with promulgating survey process in an effective manner.

This granular perspective considers the improvement of speculations and proposals grounded in certifiable perceptions, cultivating a more profound comprehension of maintainable pool surface practices in the Australia. The research focused on perceptions, challenges and preferences related to sustainable pool cover, assessed factors influencing decisions and barriers to implementation, covering attributes such as sustainability, cost-effectiveness, environmental impact and usability.

The results highlighted a strong relationship between environmental awareness, cost considerations and acceptance of sustainable margins. They also emphasized the need to improve customer training and technical development to overcome barriers to adoption.

The purpose of this in-depth analysis was to inform further research and the development of strategies to promote the widespread adoption of sustainable pool covers in Australia.

7. Analysis and Interpretation

The various aspects of a swimming pool cover's effectiveness, cost-benefit analysis, and influence on pool maintenance and energy consumption are all examined in statistical analysis. One significant aspect is the relationship between the utilization of pool covers and the pool's temperature upkeep.

Pool covers consistently demonstrate a significant reduction in heat loss through evaporation, conserving energy and lowering heating costs by up to 50% to 70% (Oliveira et al., 2018). The conversation tends to basic parts of upgrading pool framework and maintainability. Right off the bat, assessing the compound forcefulness of pool waters, whether treated or untreated, is vital for conceiving materials and upkeep rehearses that reinforce framework integrity. Knowing these properties makes it easier to choose materials that are resistant to corrosion and degradation from pool chemicals.

The aim of the project is to improve the resistance of mineral grouts that maintain effectiveness of pool cover to the lower pH values of swimming pools. A mixture of mineral binders is proposed to solve the phase change problem of calcium-alumina cement (CAC).

The test samples undergo compressive strength evaluation under normal conditions and chemical exposure. The criteria are to maintain strength, limit degradation to 25% and ensure a resistance of at least 25 MPa (Oliveira et al., 2018). Chemical exposure tests include different conditions: standard storage, immersion in water  and exposure to pH 3 solutions (Oliveira et al., 2018). Ratings include density, dimensional change and compressive strength (according to EN standards).

These ratings ensure the mortar's resistance to aggressive pool environments and provide information on its suitability and performance. Overall, recycling aggregates and other waste materials can be incorporated into sprayed concrete for pool structures, which is in line with environmentally friendly building methods and preserves the structure's integrity at the same time. Thus, these procedures advance toughness, supportability, and cost-adequacy in pool development and upkeep while limiting ecological effect.
