Self Reflection of Masters Program And Healthcare Support Workplace
In this reflection, I will be discussing my experience of my Master's program including my workplace experience at a healthcare support providing firm. I joined Max Disability support services as a support worker during my Master’s Program.
My workplace experience has helped me learn various professional insights based on my strengths and weaknesses and learn from my errors. This has ultimately cultivated my vision towards creating an ethical and efficient caring profession.
The use of 5R will help in reflecting my practices towards my personal development and professional improvement will be highlighted in the study ahead.
During my 2 years journey of Master’s program, I have worked at Max Disability support services, as an active support worker. This has helped me gain insights on the practical experience of providing healthcare provisions to the people suffering from various health complications.
This working tenure was full of experience and learning. The main goal of my practices involves assisting ill patients with their day-to-day activities.
I have also supported them towards uplifting their emotional needs and wants. This has helped in developing holistic care that has been created by working in a multidisciplinary team (Bradshaw et al. 2022).
One such incident during my journey that I have witnessed while caring for a patient, as I knew her illness was terminal. Her illness and patient distress have impacted me ever since I was assigned to work for her.
As a response to this incident, I took a lot of responsibility but felt a profound sense of incapability of connecting while handling her. At a moment I was so helpless towards providing her with care. Despite of team who were support, I felt emotional distress even after fulfilling all my duties and practices from my healthcare team.
I felt like I was unable to deliver better treatment to her. As the patient was dealing with her terminal diagnosis, each moment when I used to spend time with her, I questioned whether I was truly equipped towards handling this emotional weight in this field.
I can relate the experience to my academic learning, especially with the course related to emotional intelligence, healthcare ethics and patient care. Enrolling for a course has helped in resonating with professional skill requirements and assisted in acknowledging and supporting the emotional factors associated with the work place behavior development (Kallio et al. 2022).

The concept has also influenced me balancing my work life. This opportunity has helped me shape my value norms based on my education-based empathy and desire towards helping others. Developing a value for empathy and emotional connection improves team collaboration at workplace (Arghode et al. 2022).
This experience has helped in shaping my approach towards healthcare practices. The experience has integrated me with emotional intelligence practices and social capital into my professional practices. This experience has strengthened my knowledge and skills regarding palliative care unit and improves my overall personal and professional abilities.
In the reflective essay, I have highlighted my work life experience as a support provider and handling a terminally ill patient. With the utilization of 5R’s reflective model, I have understood the strengths and limitations of my personal and professional abilities while working at a healthcare support providing center.
